Spiritual and Friendship Poems
” Poetry is the one unbroken thread between us and the past; from
vanished cities and civilizations this common utterance links us with
the heroism and piety, the loves and festivals — all that has gone be
fore, unchanged and ever renewed. So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.” (Robert Hillyer, In Pursuit of Poetry,1960)
Rhythm and rhyme are essential to our existence. Now and again we have a need to find inspiration, to express ourselves and to get in touch with our inner being.
There is no better way of getting in touch with our inner selves than poetry. Poetry speaks to the heart, it touches our inner core and evokes our emotions.
“Poetry has a power to uplift the ordinary human mind to a vision of a more fulfilling and creative reality. It is a mistake to only consider poetry with the judgement of a critical mind. The best poetry has the power to makes us aware of a consciousness beyond the written word. No other divine faculty has the greater power of transcendence over limits to the illimitable.” - Sri Chinmoy
Poetry gives us the opportunity to look at those things we do not understand in an objective way. As Lystra Richardson says, “Quite often poetry helps us make sense of otherwise meaningless experiences. In other words, it enlightens us and gives us insights into our own existence. It allows us to bring order and meaning to what are otherwise construed as random or mysterious experiences.” So in poetry we experience freedom, we experience our true nature and we let our creativity take over.
I am particularly fond of spiritual and friendship poems. These poems are particularly written to inspire, to uplift and to motivate. They convey love, desire, affection and unity. Spiritual and friendship poems awaken something in us and in their words we find solace hence I am dedicating this page to poetry.
It is my hope that spiritual and friendship poems will help make this blog a place of motivation and inspiration. It is my hope that you will find sweet food for the soul from these poems. Enjoy!
“Poetry can bring to the fore a real sense of joy. We may not understand why, but some poems embody the inner delight of the poet.”
“‘T is so much joy! ‘T is so much joy!
If I should fail, what poverty!”- Emily Dickinson
